Portugal was so proud to rid themselves of a Military Dictatorship in 1974, that this bridge became known as "Freedom Bridge"

Sometimes called the Henry the Navigator Monument, the Monument to the Discoveries was built to commemorate the early Portuguese discovery voyages. Situated next to the Tagus River, the Monument to Discovery offers a view of the de Abril Bridge and south across the Tagus.

Cintra is also spelled Sintra by Americans

Known in Portugal as Castelo da Pena, used by Portugal's royalty through 1910. Cintra was favored by Portuguese rulers due to its cooler climate, being in the mountainous area.

The town of Cintra is built on a hillside, so these narrow passageways lead to both stores and residences
