Registering a Domain Name

Have questions about Domain Names? Ask KatDomains. We will publish some of the questions that we believe will be most helpful to our users provide answers.
If you have previous registered a domain, you know the ropes. It's pretty easy. For those who have never registered a domain name previously, we will outline the steps and requirements.
First, you need a credit card in order to make payment online.
Next, if you want to connect your domain name to a hosting account, you will need what are known as the "Name Servers" for your hosting account. Your hosting company should provide these. Name server addresses looks like this:
ns1.WebHostNameServer.com
ns2.WebHostNameServer.com
A web host will usually have at least two name server addresses in case one goes down. Some businesses consider the possibility of a web host failure and purchase a second account with a separate host in order to ensure that their site will be available. In those cases, they should provide the 2 name server of the first host and at least one name server of the secondary host.
With our API you can first create an account and then search for a domain name, or find the domain name you wish and then create an account.
Domain Account
Your domain account requires that you choose a user name and password. In the future, you will need this user name and password to log into your account in order to manage your domain name. All your registered domain names can be managed through this account and any domain names you register through our system will be listed in this account.
When you create an account, you must provide your real name and contact information. Your contact information must include an email address. If and when you change information, it's critical to update your account information so that you will receive all notices regarding your domains. Many people forget to update their domain accounts when they change email addresses.
You will be asked to designate the owner, contact and technical contact for your domain name.
Owner - the person designate to actually own the registration. This person has all rights to the registration so choose them carefully.
Contact - the person who receives notifications concerning the domain name such as notices of renewal. Usually this is your webmaster or someone in your company who is responsible to ensure the domain registration remains active.
Technical Contact - If there are technical problems with your domain name, this person will be contacted. Usually this is your web designer, web host or webmaster.
Each step of the API leads you through the information you need to provide. The final step will be to provide payment information. But wait! Before you do this, please review all the information carefully , including the actual domain name(s) you are about to register. Make sure there are no misspellings in the domain name(s) you've selected because once you purchase the registration, it's final!
Once your purchase is complete you will see a page with a confirmation number. Print this page so you can record the registration and refer to the confirmation if a problem arises. Also remember to record the due date of your renewal approximately 60 days prior to expiration. While our Registrar sends out several renewal notifications, if your email address is not up to date or your spam filter deletes the email, your registration may expire without notice. It is your responsibility to keep your registration active and renewed timely.
